Kinky-Curly Clip-Ins: Good or Bad ?

I risk sounding like a Natural Nazi but I feel conflicted about natural-looking weaves and clip-ins. to be fair, I am also conflicted on weave in general, I have NO problem with protective styling, versatility or hair as a flexible accessory, however I cringe when I think of those who do not understand how to properly care for their hair. The people who still believe that their hair does not grow.

In one instance, clip-ins and weaves are fun, a way to experiment with color or length. Hair is the ultimate accessory, changing it to match an outfit, occasion or mood is wonderful. your hair can be the utmost form of individual expression.

But in another instance, the additional hair can be an expression of insecurity. I fear people add the hair to cover their perceived flaws saying to themselves, "My hair can't/won't grow. I will add this hair to cover/fix it.". I fear they are natural but haven't made a transition. They haven't learned to embrace or care for their hair, the hair just isn't processed any longer.

What do you think?

I can relate to your concern as I think about what others think when I put on make up. But in relation to hair, If someone really believes their hair isn't growing they should probably shave it bald and see if anything comes back. I believe weave is great. Some people just don't know where to start in researching. For the longest time I had a bald spot in the middle of my nape. It kept growing and breaking, growing and breaking until I finally took the time to visit a dermatologist. The other option would have been to cut it off - which I was also ready to do. After visiting my dermatologist and Identifying the issue my hair has grown back. I think the other issue is that some people are expecting to see hair growth over night. Thats not realistic. I was using weave at a point and time to cover my insecurity of a growing bald spot but taking the time to go to a specialist has helped. Rather than fear being a nazi its best to teach and ask people what they struggle with in maintaining their hair. I love the weaves because I don't have to spend time styling my own hair. I'd love to hear more.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I agree about having realistic expectations. Ppl should also consult specialist.

Well I a very leave you options open girl. I have tried extensions and wigs and find them fun for short term and when experimenting with color and cut. And I definitely don't like to dictate to people their hair options... unless I gave birth to them. It does concern me when people continuously wear weaves all the time. I also find ridiculous when a people who continuously wears weaves preaches against relaxers and brags to me about how they don't use chemicals in their hair.

I feel like whatever you decide make sure health of you own hair is at the forefront.
