I tried to help...can you add anything?

I received this message:

HELLO
FACTS..... :)
i have relaxed hair.

It is shedding really bad.
I had to cut about two inches off so now it is shoulder length.
Im in the process of using aphogee treatment.
but i really want to grow my new grow out so i can go natural.
grow new grow out So it will be long enough to at least braid to the scap.

Im VERY SCARED OF THE BEGINNING PROCESS! :( so i need some tips.

QUESTIONS...

If i get a sew in and left just a little natural new grow out at the top and flat iron it would i get the same natural result? Or would this damage the hair?
PLEASE RESPOND.... im tired of perms..lol

I replied:

If you use heat a lot it will change your curl pattern. If you are worried about how your hair will look while you transition try kinky twists, cornrows or braids that way you don't have to use heat to straighten your hair to "match". You can also choose weave that is not bone straight that way if your new growth shows you won't feel the need to press/flat iron it.

I never did a Big Chop so you can grow it out without cutting it all off. I was afraid too, I just stopped wearing straight, straight styles ( I wore twist-outs, braid-outs and got my hair braided) and before I knew it I wanted to cut off those straight ends because they didn't match and weren't doing what the rest of my hair was doing.

The scariest thing is letting go of the idea that smooth, straight, silky hair is better than healthy, kinky, curly, wavy hair. Take good care of your hair, do your homework on products and it will grow so quickly you'll be amazed. :D

She replied:

my natural hair is too long for the kinky twists(but its in very bad shape) i think ill try the braids....
I looked into what others are using. Some people make their own products. If you dont mind me asking what type of products do you use for your hair?

I replied:

How can your natural hair be too long for kinky twists, they are basically done in the same fashion as individual braids?

I use Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Cream for moisture, I seal it in with unrefined shea butter. I co-wash with whatever I have( 2 cheap 2 buy conditioner when I still have plenty :D) and if I'm worried about the quality of the conditioner I add olive oil, coconut oil or both. I shampoo using a shampoo i make from Dr Bronners Castille soap and olive and coconut oils.

I use gel sometimes just to smooth my puffs. I really highly recommend Qhemet for the health of your hair, Komaza Care is also good.

LadykpNYC did a video called before you trash it about salvaging products so you don't go broke.

2kurly4u did a video on how to make the castille soap shampoo.

Is any of this helping :)

She answered:

yeah thanks! :)

World Natural Hair Show - Atlanta

I was there!

The show was wonderful. Everything was beautiful and organized and the overall vibe was completely positive. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera.

High Points:
- meeting Naturally Sophia
- having my t-shirt recognized -Shea Butter is my friend!
- being recognized from YouTube
"You look so familiar do I know you from somewhere?", "YouTube?", "That's it, I'm on
YouTube all the time!"
- the suggestion that I should be a vendor
-Meri's All Natural Vegan Desserts-They were super moist, delicious, dairy and egg free!
-Kishya Essentials wonderful, high quality, beautifully scented products for hair and body.
**The owner is as beautiful and genuine as her products.**
- The opportunity to have a custom hair piece/wig created for you on site.
- finding most of the natural stylist in metro Atlanta in one trip
- having my hair complimented every 1000 feet

Low Points(not really):
-Qhemet Biologics didn't come.
-I went on Sunday and may have missed things available on Saturday.
-So many beautiful heads of locs they made me doubt my loose hair.

I don't want to sound conceited but I looked really good (hair and all) but, being a naturally humble person I could not figure out why people kept asking if I used the products at each table I browsed. My friend finally said, "They are asking because they like your hair!".

I bought two Erama's Hair ties, a delicious smelling pomade called Fruitilicious from Kishya Essentials, some shea butter and I fully intend to get at Kimberly ( Meri's All Natural) before the end of the week as she is on my side of town.

I'll do a full review of the pomade soon and next year look for the Knaps booth!

Synthetic Puffs - Friend or Foe?

Good Afternoon! This is the other natural half of Knapsgirl.com , Leigh ( monicajoi's sister).
I had to post this because I find this funny and sad at the same time.

You can buy puffs now on Ebay? For all you trying to transition... hahaha I'm just kidding.
What do you think about these? I see the positive's and the negatives.

The Progression of the Twists

I proudly put in my smallest and most presentable twists to date three week ago. I love a style with staying power, so I am happy to announce as I type this blog I am wearing the last incarnation of this style ( a curly twist-out ponytail ). Here is the progression of my twists in the last three weeks:

Week 1:

Straight Twists

Week 2:

Curly Twists

Week Three:

Twist-out

I think I got a lot of attractive mileage out this style.

Snow Day-Great Hair

It snowed in Georgia in March! This was not a typical southern flurry that excites those native to warm weather. It snowed two inches! In addition to the horror that Michigan weather may have followed me to my southern hideaway I had great hair that no one could see or enjoy but me. I consoled myself with the fact that my 'do was so fly I would have wonderful second day hair.

Today two-thirds of the state of Georgia is closed down including my workplace. Who is enjoying my new 'do? Russell. :(
